COMMUNITY

Baja is located in the Piedmont Avenue shopping district in North Oakland. It is named after Piedmont Avenue, the main commercial street of the district. Here you will find an eclectic collection of shops, most of them independent and locally owned, which gives the avenue its down-to-earth vibe. Outdoor cafes and coffee houses invite a leisurely stroll, while the eclectic collection of cuisines promise to make that stroll deliciously memorable.

The Piedmont Avenue Merchants Association (or PAMA, as it is known by its acronym) is the governing body. Every year PAMA organizes community events that our friends and families enjoy. There is the Art Walk, which happens every third Thursday of each month. This event offers residents of Oakland and surrounding areas a great opportunity to come out and spend the evening shopping, dining and enjoying the arts and entertainment with friends and family.

There is also the Art & Tulip Festival, in which Piedmont Avenue celebrates spring by hosting floral shows, art exhibits and live musicians on the Avenue. The festival commences in late March with an explosion of tulips at Mountain View Cemetery and culminates in a Merchant Fair in late April.

Without a doubt the most popular event among children, as well as those young at heart, is the Halloween Parade. For decades, Piedmont Avenue has been host to the most fun, family-friendly Halloween parade around. Held the Saturday before Halloween, merchants open their doors to hundreds of youngsters in their scariest costumes.
